The Patent Data Specialist excels in a fast-paced high volume intellectual property (IP) environment and is responsible for the resolution of domestic and foreign patent payment data errors. Sense of urgency, accuracy and attention to detail are critical to being successful in this position. The Patent Data Specialist requires strong interpersonal and motivational skills with the ability to communicate effectively. The ideal candidate must possess a well disciplined organized approach to time and task management, and exhibit qualities that illustrate a dedication to quality and complete customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review, interpret and follow up on all agent, patent office and client communications involving patent data errors while reducing risks associated with patent payments
  • Docket patent data errors and other information in Thomson IP Management Services' internal proprietary database within prescribed deadlines
  • Perform patent data integrity checks
  • Provide excellent customer support to clients regarding patent data errors and IP rules for assigned jurisdictions
  • Develop and maintain IP expertise as well as investigate and analyze IP Rules changes for assigned jurisdictions
  • Contribute to the processing of patent payments, including client correspondence, updating of patent records, verification of client's patent data and reviewing data integrity reports
  • Analyze data and utilize metrics to report trends
  • Collaborate and communicate with colleagues within patent payment services
  • Act as liaison between domestic and foreign clients, agents and patent offices
  • Paralegal degree and/or Bachelors degree preferred
  • 3+ years experience in the IP Industry preferred; specific to patent payment problem interpretation and resolution
  • Keen sensitivity to urgent deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to orchestrate multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy required
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work through and detect patterns in large volumes of data
  • Proven excellent collaboration, written and verbal communication skills
  • Energetic, self-starter with ability to break through historical barriers
