POSITION SUMMARY
Research In Motion is seeking a Senior Patent Attorney to join the Standards & Licensing department. The successful candidate will be part of the Patent Development and Standards Strategy Team responsible for developing a strategic patent position by evaluating RIM patents and applications to optimize strategic value and for analyzing patents of others for potential acquisition.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include portfolio reviews of patents and pending applications, participation in mining activities to identify inventions of strategic value, and providing guidance for patent filings. This role may include management of strategic patent portfolios. This position will interact regularly with research and development personnel.

Job Description:
The Staff Counsel, Intellectual Property/Patents will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on a wide range of issues relating to patents and technology related intellectual property, including having responsibility for handling and/or managing outside counsel regarding complex patent/IP related matters. Individual will be expected to work closely with internal clients, and coordinate work with other attorneys within the Office of the General Counsel.
